How to Throw a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
This is how you create a fun and easy fiesta for Cinco De Mayo.
If you are looking to create a fun and easy fiesta for Cinco De Mayo (or any night!). Here are some tips for you to organize a perfect party, or give a surprise to your family and friends. Follow these steps:
- Make it Semi-Homemade!
Everyone loves homemade meals, but sometimes mama just needs a little help. From scratch is fabulous, but many days, convenience is truly a BFF. When trying to put together something like a fun little fiesta for your family, everybody enjoys the extra touches such as some fun decoration or eating outdoors. It is hard to do all that and cook everything from scratch, so semi-homemade is the way to go.
So for this meal, I let José Olé take care of my main dishes, and I took care of the sides. José Olé is protein-packed with authentic Mexican flavor, real ingredients and is really easy to make – great for feeding the family or feeding a whole crowd.
- Find Fun Twists On Old Favorites
Seven layer dip is such a classic choice for Cinco De Mayo, but sometimes kids are kind of messy. So instead of the traditional seven-layer dip in a pan, we recommend layering the exact same ingredients into clear plastic cups.
Why is everything so much more fun in single serving sizes? Just take your favorite seven-layer dip recipe and put it in cups. Boom, you just made Cinco De Mayo Dippers! These are perfect for your José Olé snacks. Dipping chips are great, but dipping mini tacos and taquitos totally rock. Not up for seven layer dip? Fill the cups with salsa or guacamole or whatever your gang enjoys.
- Take It Outside
May is one of those months that is beautiful in most areas, and outdoor activities are so enjoyable. Eating outside is a treat and so special. Opening the door and taking meals outside turns something ordinary into something really fun.
- Work With What You Have
You don’t have to spend a lot of money, there are things you can use you already own. Pull together a fun table setting with things you have around your house. The tablecloth and plates can be from past events. The napkins and flatware can also be leftovers from a party. You can get chip cups from the dollar spot and they could be the ones made for ice cream!
No outdoor dining table? Set everything on a folding table, and throw a blanket down on the grass. Dining al fresco! Grab the seven-layer dip cups instead of plates. Everyone will come for more tacos and taquitos. This is a meal that you can eat almost anywhere!
- Have Fun With It
This might be the most important one, have fun with it! Your Cinco de Mayo celebration does not have to be Pinterest-perfect. Nobody will notice if everything is made from scratch or the table is perfectly accessorized. The important thing is the company and quality time. Just enjoy. Don’t get wrapped up in having things always be crafty, clever and perfect.
So have FUN with it. Even if you’ve had a crazy day and are dropping all the balls that you are juggling, you can throw some José Olé snacks in the oven (or even the microwave). Grab a few plates and head outside with the kids for your own little family fiesta. That’s the part your loved ones will remember.
Just say Olé!
